Prepositional Phrase

Prepositional phrase หรือ บุพบทวลี คือวลีที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยคำบุพบทตามด้วยส่วนเติมเต็มดังนี้

1. Preposition + Noun phrase
= She walks through the back door of the restaurant.
2. Preposition + noun clause
= from what I have heard, he is not really smart.

3. Preposition + V-ing
= I went home directly after speaking to you.

หน้าที่ของ Prepositional phrase
1. ทำหน้าที่ขยายประธานของประโยค โดยวางอยู่หลัง Verb to be หรือ linking verb เช่น
Samantha is in the hospital.

2. ทำหน้าที่ขยายนามวลี (Noun phrase) โดยอยู่ข้างหลัง Noun phrase นั้นๆ เช่น
Jane took a course in Advanced English at British council last month.


3. ทำหน้าที่ขยาย adjective โดยวางข้างหลัง adjective นั้นๆ เช่น
They are aware of AIDS virus.

4. ทำหน้าที่ขยายประโยค เช่น
In my opinion, Thailand is the best country for travelling.
