การถอดความ

Paraphrase คือ restatement ซึ่งคือการถอดความของหนังสือหรือข้อความเดิม โดยใช้คำอื่น

Paraphrase มีรากศัพย์มาจากภาษาลาตินและกรีก มีความหมายว่า รูปแบบสำนวนที่เพิ่มเติม

ขั้นตอนการถอดความ

4. ถ้านำวลีมาใช้โดยไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลง ให้ใส่เครื่องหมายคำพูด

5. ตรวจสอบการถอดความกับต้นฉบับเดิม สำหรับลักษณะทั่วไปและความหมายให้ถูกต้อง

การถอดความโดยทั่วไปคือการสรุปความหรือย่อความ การถอดความ บทคัดย่อ หรือ การอ่านเอาใจความ ควรเลี่ยงสำนวนเดิมให้มากเท่าที่จะทำได้ เพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงการคัดลอกผลงานและเพื่อแสดงความเข้าใจ การถอดความพูดถึงอะไร เป็นไปตามสภาพการณ์ต่าง ๆ ดังนี้

• เมื่อศึกษาถึงคำจำกัดความและแนวคิดของวิชาใหม่

• เมื่อมีข้อตกลงตามข้อเท็จจริงในสถานการณ์หนึ่งและการแปลความหมายของเรื่องนั้น

• เมื่อข้อความนั้นทำให้การนำเสนอสมบูรณ์และเป็นรูปธรรม

• เมื่อคำนั้นเป็นของผู้ประพันธ์ที่เจาะจง หรือแหล่งข้อมูลที่ยอมรับและเชื่อถือได้

บ่อยครั้งที่มีการใช้การอ้างอิงมากเกินไป ในการบันทึกข้อความ และส่งผลให้ใช้การอ้างอิงมากเกินไปในการสอบ (งานวิจัย) ปลายปี ต้นฉบับควรมีสิ่งที่อ้างถึงประมาณร้อยละ 10 ดังนั้นจึงควรพยายามที่จะจำกัดจำนวนการถ่ายทอดอักษรจากต้นฉบับ ในขณะที่จดบันทึก

ในการเขียนงานวิจัย การใช้คำอ้างอิงมาจากหนังสือมากเกินความจำเป็น ทำให้ลดระดับการใช้คำกล่าวอ้างที่ยอมรับได้ เนื่องจากปัญหานี้เกิดขึ้นระหว่างการจดบันทึก จึงจำเป็นที่ต้องลดจำนวนการบันทึกคำต่อคำควรใช้การถอดความจากหนังสือที่อ่านแทนการอ้างอิง
